IS THIS RACIST? WHY OR WHY NOT? (#1: ANNIE MALONE)

“We’ve already progressed. The progression is here right now. I have someone who’ll make you forget Obama as a symbol. I read about this woman Annie Malone that was a millionaire in the early 1900s. I don’t know, like 1910s and 20s. Yes, she was black. As in African-American. And she was a millionaire. Who can donate $25,000 to a university and eat the next day? She could. She was a full-blown millionaire. You know much a million dollars in 1920 would be worth today, in 2017? $12 million. Wrap your head around that. For African-American beauty products, that’s how she made it. Like I said, forget Obama. Obama is 2008’s progress, 2012’s progress. Annie Malone was the early 1900s. A black person—hell, a black woman—made it back then. You know, made it. She got the ‘American Dream’ how all of us want to. Annie Malone made a million dollars when there were still over fifty lynchings a year in this country, and the vast majority of the lynched people were black. Malone and Obama are good news – more proof that the U.S.A. is home for everybody. Liberty and a decent living are available to anybody who wants to take them. We can be sure, absolutely sure, that anybody who can’t make a living here is doing something wrong. It isn’t ‘institutional racism’. It’s you, whoever you are. It’s you, complaining from where we can barely hear you, like rodents in the insulation. It’s your own damn fault.”
